Netflix’s 5 Most Anticipated 2022 Bollywood Movies & TV Shows

Netflix’s original catalog of content features a wide array of non-English content. A recent article discussed how Netflix will be investing even more into international content. One of the biggest markets that Netflix has invested in from the beginning is in India. With a lot of original Indian content on the streamer, 2022 promises even more. While their rate of success is all over the place when it comes to original Indian movies and TV shows, quantity seemingly makes up for the quality. Regardless, there’s a lot more coming to Netflix in 2022.

So let’s take a look at some of the biggest Indian movies and TV shows coming to Netflix in 2022.

Finding Anamika Is Madhuri Dixit’s Big Comeback

Madhuri Dixit is one of Bollywood biggest stars. The actress is a 90’s icon and has remained in the limelight over the years with her various film appearances. She’s taken major risks with roles like those in Gulaab Gang and Dedh Ishqiya. Performances that allowed her to evolve and remain one of the industry’s most talented names. With Finding Anamika the actress comes back to the small screen in a big way, in a role that also feels kind of meta. Netflix’s official synopsis from IMDb is below.

A global superstar, wife, and mom suddenly vanishes without a trace. As police and loved ones search for answers to her disappearance, her perfectly crafted facade is stripped away, revealing hidden truths and painful lies in the life of an iconic actress.

The series looks like it’ll deal with a lot of themes of mystery and suspense. I wonder if it will be mostly flashing back to the character’s life, given that it looks like the hook is her missing from the get-go. Time will tell as Finding Anamika releases on Netflix in 2022.

Khufiya Is A New Bollywood Murder Mystery

Vishal Bhardwaj is one of India’s most acclaimed filmmakers. Putting himself on the international map with his trilogy of Shakespeare’s greatest works, adapted for Indian audiences. With his latest being a Netflix original called Khufiya, the excitement is high! The movie reteams Bhardwaj with Tabu, (The Namesake, Life Of Pi) along with Ali Faizal (Murder On The Nile, Victoria & Abdul) for a brand new spy thriller.

The teaser releases it long and drawn out and seems to hint at some sort of betrayal. The movie is based on the book Escape To Nowhere by Amar Bhushan and is also based on true events. Knowing Bhardwaj’s penchant for long-drawn-out stories that feature suspense, intrigue and a whole lot more, this genre seems tailor-made for the filmmaker.

Loop Lapeta Is The Official Remake Of Run Lola Run

Run Lola Run is an acclaimed movie from Germany from 1998. After all these years, the movie is getting an official Indian adaptation with Loop Lapeta. The film stars one of Bollywood brightest talents with Taapsee Pannu and Tahir Raj Bhasin. Loop Lapeta looks to be one of the more promising films of 2022.

Baahubali: Before The Beginning Is India’s First Netflix Franchise

Baahubali is considered a pan-Indian success. What that means is that, despite being a regional film, the movie has seen unprecedented success. Not just in India, but all over the world. Netflix acquired the streaming rights to the franchise, which includes both parts 1 and 2 of the movie. In 2018 the streamer announced a new original prequel series.

The original story sees an epic generational revenge story that’s blended in with Indian mythology. The fantasy drama is revolutionary in terms of its scope and visual effects. With the prequel chronicling the story of the rise of one of the pivotal characters in the saga. Given the success of the original film, Baahubali: Before The Beginning could easily be one of Netflix’s most anticipated shows of 2022.

Rana Naidu Is The Official Remake Of Ray Donovan

Yet another interesting new Netflix Indian series is Rana Naidu. The new series is all about Bollywood’s own fixer. It follows the same storyline as that of Ray Donovan, the original Showtime series about a Hollywood fixer. When celebrities get in trouble, they call someone to help them out with all their, various issues. The Netflix show will adapt all the Hollywood angles into the world of India’s Hindi language film industry, which is sure to make for some interesting drama.

Rana Naidu stars Rana Daggubatti from the aforementioned Baahubali movies. He’s teaming up with his own real-life uncle, South Indian superstar Venkatesh Daggubatti. So it all comes together for what should be a very interesting Netflix original series.
