Netflix’s Most Anticipated Original TV Shows Of 2022

With 2021 coming to an end, it’s time to stop looking back and take a hard look forward at the coming year. With the pandemic shutting down movie theatres, for a while, it was TV’s time to shine. Streaming platforms, cable and network TV shows featured new shows that had something for everyone. Netflix is proudly known as one of the streaming platforms that invests a huge chunk of their programming budget into brand new original TV series. And that is the same case in 2022.

So let’s take a look at the most anticipated Netflix original TV shows coming in 2022.

Strangers Things Season 4 Is 2022’s Most Anticipated Series

Arguably one of Netflix's biggest hits is the sci-fi 80’s nostalgia-filled Stranger Things. After three pretty successful seasons, season four premieres in the summer of 2022. Making stars out of their cast, like Millie Bobbie Brown and Finn Wolfhard, the show is a cultural phenomenon. It managed to rekindle the love for mature genre franchises with kids in the lead. While season three ended in a kind of cliffhanger, season four promises the return of Hopper (David Harbour). Not to mention continuing the evolution of the main protagonist, Eleven (Brown). There’s also the whole star crossed lovers angle between Eleven and Mike (Wolfhard) that needs a resolution as well. Strangers Things season 4 cannot get here soon enough.

Army Of The Dead: Lost Vegas Continues Zack Snyder’s Franchise

Zack Snyder’s Army Of The Dead was one of Netflix’s biggest cinematic hits this year. Later on in the year, we also saw the release of the prequel to that movie in Army Of Thieves. The Snyder Zombie universe continues with a new anime series coming in 2022, Army Of The Dead: Lost Vegas. The new anime series with an impressive voice cast features the returning live-action stars of Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Ana de la Reguera and Tig Notaro. While also having new stars like Vanessa Hudgens, Anya Chalotra, Jena Malone, Christian Slater and Joe Manganiello joining this all-star universe. The series promises to show the early phases of a zombie apocalypse and how the characters attempt to protect the ones they love when it all began. Lost Vegas premieres sometime in 2022.

The Sandman Could Be Netflix Biggest 2022 Original Series

One of the most critically acclaimed graphic novels, The Sandman, is finally getting a live-action series. There have been many attempts made to put together a Sandman series, for many years now, all usually leading nowhere. Recently, an Audible audio series featured an all-star voice cast. An early version of Sandman had Joseph Gordon-Levitt set to star and direct. But after a lot of back and forth, that ultimately fell through. However, after numerous stalls, delays and changes, a series version is finally moving forward with new creators and stars. With a Teaser released, The Sandman is poised to be Netflix’s most-hyped new series, and the one with the biggest fan following behind it. The Sandman releases on Netflix in 2022.

The Umbrella Academy Season 3 Starts Where It Ended

Another one of Netflix's most surprising successes was the comic book adaptation, The Umbrella Academy. With two hit seasons of time travelling, weird, dysfunctional superhero family drama, the third season promises to continue more of the same. Imagine if the X-Men grew up to hate one another, and their mentor; that’s basically the beginning of the premise of The Umbrella Academy. With even more layers of drama and complexity, the series really works well to subvert the traditional superhero tropes. Season 3 of The Umbrella Academy premieres in 2022.

The Witcher: Blood Origin Is Yet Another Series Based On The Books

After The Witcher season 1 and the Nightmare Of The Wolf anime movie, more Witcher is coming to Netflix! With season 2 releasing at the end of December 2022 will see another live-action series set in the same Witcher universe. The Witcher: Blood Origin is a prequel series cataloguing the events 1,200 years before that of the original series. Set in the Elven world, Blood Origin will feature the story of the first-ever Witcher, not to mention the world that he existed in. The new series stars Michelle Yeoh and a brand new cast as they explore a time before the events of the original series. And while Nightmare Of The Wolf explored the origins of the group of Witchers, Blood Origin will tell the story of the first-ever Witcher. Witcher: Blood Origin releases in 2022.
