Squid Game Drops to #2 After Record-Setting Run, But Will Not Soon Be Forgotten

After seeing the popularity of Squid Game week after week on Netflix, I had to ask… what’s the hype all about? This was the first show of its kind (non-English) to be #1 in the Top 10 for 24 days.

My boyfriend tried to watch it once with me, and I was half paying attention until the annoyingly loud, repetitive music came on early in the first episode. And honestly, as someone who doesn’t watch many foreign films, I didn’t understand why he wanted to watch a show that wasn’t in English.

Well, a few days later, I finally decided to start watching, on the same day I openly made fun of people who were so obsessed with this show at work. My words were, “if I wanted to read, I’d read a book.” And let me tell you, I am swallowing those words now.

My advice if you’re just starting it - watch it with original audio, English subtitles, and put it on mute during the intro flashback with the loud/annoying music. Once you get past that intro, the hype all starts to make sense. This show is ADDICTING.

You - Netflix
You in the Top Spot!

I may have been a bit late to the game since it’s #2 on Netflix, taking a backseat to the third season of You. However, my bet is it’ll still be in the Top 10 for a while. Some of the more stubborn people like me are just starting to catch on. This show was so well-written, the cinematography is amazing, and you’re pretty much guaranteed to be on the edge of your seat the whole time.

I’ll be binging both Squid Game and You simultaneously, so stay tuned for more posts coming soon.
